About Shifu Yan Tuo

Shifu Yan Tuo is a 34th-generation Shaolin disciple who began learning Kung Fu at the age of six under his father’s guidance in Shandong Province. In 1997, he entered the Shaolin Temple in Songshan, and by 2000, he was training directly under the abbot, Shi Yong Xin. Over decades of disciplined practice, he has mastered traditional Shaolin fist forms, weapons, Qi Gong, and Chan (Zen) meditation — fully embodying the principle of Chan Wu He Yi, the unity of Zen and martial arts.

Since 2008, Shifu Yan Tuo has shared Shaolin culture across Korea and the United States, teaching Kung Fu, tea ceremony, and mindfulness practices in major cities.

Now based in Seattle, Washington, he offers online classes, in-person training, and travels globally for seminars and retreats — continuing his mission to connect with students through the Arts of Shaolin and pass on its timeless teachings of discipline, inner harmony, and spiritual cultivation.

This 4-week live Zoom course offers a deep introduction to the physical, energetic, and spiritual dimensions of Shaolin life.

Students will explore:

Week 2 – October 14, 2025

The Power of Qi Gong
Understand the essence of Qi Gong — what it is, why it matters, and how it transforms the body from the inside out. This session includes a guided breakdown of Ba Duan Jin (Eight Brocades), one of the most accessible and powerful forms for cultivating internal energy.


Week 3 – October 21, 2025

Tea Ceremony & Meditative Rituals
Discover the cultural and spiritual significance of tea within the Shaolin and Chan Buddhist traditions. Learn how to prepare and drink tea mindfully through the Gong Fu Cha method. This class weaves together stillness, ritual, and sensory awareness.


Week 4 – October 28, 2025

Meditation: The Heart of Shaolin Practice
Dive deep into the purpose of meditation in the Shaolin tradition. Discuss why we meditate, how to establish a regular practice, and how stillness complements martial and daily life. This final class integrates everything learned — movement, energy, tea, and inner peace.
